Is this automotive related in any way?

Not specifically automotive related.

It's a more general use object.

How about a little bit wider, and in the correct position - maybe final clue (please remember - some parts are to be inserted):

Things that go bang™ related? Could the slots be for legs to stabilizer a shooter?

Not for stabilization legs or arms.

Not specifically related to bang or boom equipment - though I can imagine that it could also be used for example during elaboration of ammo.

It's time to reveal the mystery object Derek !!!

Sorry to keep you waiting - been busy for some hours today.
No use to have this thread stuck, so here it is.

To use the correct wording let me quote the "manual": "headband magnifier with LED ilumination", to be used for "fishing, reading, gardening, mechanical processing, electronic maintenance etc." 🙂
(To tell the truth, the light could be stronger. And I did not show the LED part at the beginning not to distract you from the main purpose.)
The kit includes five lenses of magnification 1.5x to 3.5x, which can be attached single or double (when higher magnification is needed - resulting in up to 6.0x max).
