I was just trying to get the party started. A metal fan-based object is about all I've got -- wasn't smart enough to add broach or pin into the mix, not that it would have helped.

Guess it could be used to keep something open, like a book, perhaps?
Hate to say it, but I think you’ve gotten about as close as needed with “a metal fan-based object”, as the object is indeed, a metal fan.
