How's your EM5 mkII holding up?

Discussion in 'Olympus Cameras' started by RKStarr, Nov 22, 2015.

  1. The em5ii looks like a nice addition to my m4/3 gear but I'm wondering how they are holding up to general use now that the model has been out for a while.

I ask because my EM1 is currently being serviced a second time for the rear dial problem. It is the only camera that has ever required service, despite the excellent care I have taken of it, and I use cameras quite extensively. I cannot have a camera that I can't depend on.

Searches here and elsewhere have not yielded any widespread issues such as the em1 rear dial problem, but I would be interested if any m4/3 veterans have had any experiences that bear mentioning along the lines of reliability. Thanks!

Only thing to mention is not reliability.. But silver version paint is very poor..even babied Dink's and marks appear every time I use it...never had such issue with Pentax k5 silver model...paint coating is only negative I have seen so far

Mine is perfect, I have the silver one and carry it every day in my messenger bag, no issues.

Nothing serious. The super screen wouldn't stay on of a while and other occasional strange things sometimes happen. Like I couldn't stop it from changing to HDR. Then is fixed itself. It does get dings, but is my go to camera, for now. I don't care about this kind of stuff.

I had one issue - the articulating screen got a bit out of whack somehow.
I almost never use it turned out - I don't really care for that type of screen.
Anyway, I turned it out and noticed it was a bit off-kilter.
It still snaps into place when I close it, so no big deal.
But the camera wasn't dropped or abused in any way,
so that's another knock in my book for those extending screens.
I can see the value for video and for verticals,
but basically I feel they are a clumsy and easily damaged PIA.
