I have no experience of NIk on Oly.

But what occured to me immediately I read the title was one of safety and compatability.

IMVHO the safest way would be to use the sb-600 off-camera and triggered remotely by the OM-D flash using a slave hot shoe or similar trigger.

Just my 2p's worth, I'd hate for you to blow up your OM-D

I use my SB-600 a lot on my Oly E-PL3. It work fine on the hotshoe
I simple put it in manual mode (M) and adjust the output
I don't know for the OM-D but I guess it should be the same

Hmm, is there a way to check compatibility? I have a SB400, which I could use with my EP2.

My SB600 and SB900 work fine on the E-M5 in manual mode.
