I ran into this issue too and managed to create a solution that fixes it on the fly (files and folders showing properly again, and they can be copied from the sd card to a safe place), fyi: https://www.isobuster.com/news/isobuster_4.6_release_notes see: "Work-around for a certain type of data corruption that appears to happen frequently using certain USB card readers (internal and external). Symptoms are the sudden loss of files and or partitions etc. Usually in combination with FAT. Remaining files and/or folders may get names such as "USBC◘╧è◘" or "USBC.."

My Case here
I am wildlife Photographer. I came from Jungle and connected my Sandisk Extreme Pro Card to PC.
Opened the Folder and changed the name of a Folder on SD Card to "June21Trip". That's the mistake I did and the card got corrupted.
I used the tutorial video how to recover data from card by using PhotoRec suggested by Giny88.
it recovered all my files. Thanks Ginny!
You have to format the SD card (On your own risk) and then only you can use Photorec and PhotoRec will recover all you images from SD Card. Mine was .NEF Data. allgot recovered in .NEF (Nikon) format only.

Glad it worked for you, but formatting or any other changes are not recommended before recovery.

I had a similar corruption once upon renaming a folder; I suspect the card reader was bad.
Now I always copy the files first before renaming anything on the card.
