    Hey everybody!

I know I should be studying for my last 2 finals.. but my motivation is lacking a bit.. :frown:

So I am packing my bags, and realized I need help deciding on what lenses to take to Las Vegas! Last time I went was when I was a kid back in 1989,
so the only things I know about Vegas is from stories, pictures, TV & movies

I'm staying at Mandalay Bay for 6 nights & I prefer to travel light, & do not want to take a separate camera bag, so space in my carry-on luggage is a bit limited..

As of right now, I'm packing my Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Tripod with 324RC2 Joystick Head, Olympus FL-BK01 Flash Bracket, Olympus FL-36R Flash and Orbis Ring Flash, which really doesn't leave me any space for extra stuff... :frown:

I know for sure I am going to take my Rokinon 7.5 mm f/3.5 fisheye lens.

I am deciding on taking 1 more lens, so for those who have recently been to Las Vegas please pick 1 for me!

From all the lenses I have, I've narrowed it down to these 4

    Panny 20/1.7
    Olympus 45/1.8
    Olympus OM 55/1.2
    Olympus OM 28/2.8

Which one would you guys take??

Long exposure HDR with FE is gonna rock in Vegas. Do you really need to bring legacy lenses when you got Oly 45?
I go to Vegas every year. Next year I'll bring Rokinon 7.5mm, Panny 14 and Oly 45. Nikon SB-30 flash for fill in the sun and my favorite light Sony tripod. And of course ND filters!!!

True.. I guess legacy lenses won't be needed, so you would take the 45/1.8?!

It's just that I don't have any ND filters for the 45/1.8, but I have several for the OM 55/1.2..

Fish eye should be fun to use in Vegas. I'll have to get one before my next visit.

But why not take both 20 and the 45? They are so small and light as to make marginal difference to your luggage size or weight.

If you've already got larger ND filters, just get some step-up rings.

    I was there last month.
    I only used my 20.

Yes, the 20/1.7 is super small, & so is that 45/1.8,
but I am just worried that I will have too many camera related things all over the hotel room, and end up losing something.. (I've already lost my lens cap for the OM 28/2.8 & flash stand for my nissin flash a while back :frown:)

I use Hoya Pro1 ND64 (4-stop) filter 52mm via step-up ring (no smaller thread available). Oly 45 is my most important lens. Imagine epic wide open (w/ND) portaits w/fill flash on a sunny day with the strip behind...

    I see you have the 12/2.0 & Voigtlander 40/1.4!

Did you not regret using those,
or were you completely satisfied with just using your 20/1.7?!

I was only there for a night and part of 2 days.
Ideally I would have liked all 3, but just went out with the 20.
Best walking around lens in those circumstances for me.

Precisely why I still keep this lens even though it's rarely used. It just give this no-brainer option when you must pick just one lens...

Since there are no camera stores around here, are there any good camera stores in Las Vegas you can point me to?!

    Taz,
What kind/type of images do you wish to capture? Knowing that will determine what equipment to take.

    I would take the 20, 45, 7.5, flash, & bracket.

What type of diffuser for the flash do you use? If doing portraits, the intense light from the flash needs to be carefully controlled.

I have an Orbis Ring flash that diffused the light pretty well!
+ I have a small collapsable 36 inch reflector that has white and silver on each side

    Taz,
Have you considered this instead of carrying the ring flash and reflector? Should be a lot lighter to carry.

    Pretty interesting!

But since I already paid $ for the ring flash, I'm kinda trying to make sure I use it as much as possible, because no reason to have it and not use it

Thanks for the link though!

I'm all for that. Was just thinking of what you stated in your original post: "...space in my carry-on luggage is a bit limited.."

Have a great time in Sin City.
