I just received my 12-40mm lens direct from Olympus Tuesday and have been using it for 3 days on my E-M1. The camera and lens were working perfectly, shooting AF mostly in P mode outdoors (at 35°) and indoors. Suddenly today the lens/camera is in M manual mode and will not change. I tried switching to iAuto and aperature modes, removed and remounted lens, cleaned contacts on lens, reset camera and still stuck in M. If I try a different lens (O 60mm) the AF and other focus options are available.

Am I missing something or do I have a defective lens?

You may have pulled back the manual collar at the front of the lens. If you can see a distance scale then this is what you have done. Simply slide the focus ring back towards the front of the lens which will put it back in AF.
