I'm addicted to capturing OOC highlights with my Helios.

A bunch more from walking around and shooting today. Nice bokeh, very sharp. Only issue is super-flare, which I don't mind at all. Also, my copy has super rattle-y aperture blades, sometimes not stopping past f/8 or f/11.

I like the bokeh quite a bit, even when it gets busy or "nervous" as some like to call it. I find it pleasant.

I just received my second copy of the mighty Helios 44.
First one was a 44-2: lovely bokeh and relatively sharp.
Then I heard about the super sharp 44M-7 version and I was intrigued: can Helios be even better?
Probably it can but not mine because it is...... FAKE!
Yep, all signs point to an altered earlier version of the Helios with a replaced front plate to say Helios 44M-7
Luckily I did not pay too much but I am
currently disputing with the seller.
My investigation
revealed this: Beware of Fake Helios 44m-7 lenses
And this is my supposed Helios 44M-7

the front plate is just too new and shiny while the rest of the lens is scuffed; writing rubs off with fingernail, writing printed too close to edge

the smoking gun: serial number starting with 83... meaning it was made in 1983. Real 44M-7 production started in 1993!

Although it takes nice images it is not any sharper than my 44-2, and it flares way more than a real MC lens should.

I contacted the eBay seller (moscowphoto) and he assured me that the lens is a real Helios, he just kind of dodged the question if it was a real 44M-7!
I presented the evidence that the lens was not as described, not a real 44M-7 but an older Helios dressed up as a 44M-7; I asked for a refund. After a few emails he agreed but he could not organize return shipping (at his cost, as per eBay rules) and simply refunded the money letting me keep the lens.
I am still keen one day to get a real 44M-7 and see how much sharper this already great lens can be.

I have to make a question, it is possible to find the year of made of my lense from the S/N?

Bought this lens yesterday for the swirly effect, should've done my research apparently it's far more pronounced in older versions. Still very happy with results. This was shot wide open and seems pretty sharp. Some images were much softer, the CA is very bad wide open.
