Took out my Helios 44-2 with the Zhongyi Lens Turbo II. Set the focal length to 65mm because the closest settings I could set it to with the focal reducer was at 55mm or 65mm. What setting are you guys using?

It's been cold and cloudy in Ohio this weekend and there's not much in terms of leaves anymore so I didn't see too many subjects to create that swirling bokeh effect with.

Look for some trees and bushes with shiny leaves (better when they are wet, because they shine even more).
Keep your subject far away from the trees/bushes. The more distance, the better the effect.
If you want to increase sharpness but keep the swirl bokeh, set the Helios between f/2.2 or f/2.5.
Experiment with portraits (you can ask the model to position exactly where you need to get the swirl effect).

I got lucky with this shot. I do like this lens but i rarely use it when out and about.

Picked a mint one of these up for £4.99 (including a Zenit SLR!) earlier today - first random test cat photo wide open, quite pleasantly surprised so far!

That's a bargain @Fuzzdog. I think I paid £18 just for my lens, even at that price it's worth every penny.

Is this a 44-2 or maybe a 44-7? I ask because it looks sharper than either of my 44-2s, and I've heard the 44-7 was the sharpest of the lot.

It is definitely a 44-2! Must have just been some good vodka that day in the factory, as it's far sharper than it has any right to be. I'm actually quite shocked at how sharp it is at F/2, I've paid over a hundred times more for lenses worse than that when I had my Canons! :eek-31:

Definitely a keeper.

A few more with the 44-2. All wide open at F2.
