I'm surprised there isn't a thread for this lens already. I thought quite a few people used it. I have two of these lenses and they both take better pictures than I can get. Both had oil on the blades but that doesn't effect the picture. You have to get used to setting the aperture stops on it, but that's minor. If you like to shoot with legacy lens, this might be an option. There's lots of these on eBay. I bought both of mine with a Zenit cheap.

I'll start with several pictures that I took this summer and hope others will start uploading some of theirs.

I guess I should have stated that I use a Panasonic G2 and a fotodiox adapter. The Helios lens have a M42 mount.

It's a good lens. I used to have one, but sold it about a month ago in an attempt to reduce the number of legacy primes on my shelf! The Helios 44 exists in a number of minor variations, the biggest difference may be in the aperture blades. There is an image thread already for the 44M (6 blades), whereas the 44-2 has 8 blades.

    A couple more

Here's a couple more shots I took recently. One is of a skunk cabbage "blossom." I'd seen and smelled lots of skunk cabbage before, but I don't remember seeing it's first growth in the spring. The other photo is from my back yard. Both were taken with Panasonic G2 and a Helios 44-2.

    Dave,

Nice shots. The Helios is a good lens for the money. Actually, the camera is probably decent with film. I got two Helios's with working bodies (Zenit) and ran a roll of film through each just for the fun of it. Results were good. I like the 44M better than the 44-2 because it's easier to shoot with, but both take about equal pictures. I almost always have one of the Helios lenses in my bag and alternate between the M and the -2. Here's a shot from Sunday with the 44-2.

I got the 44M-4 variant off ebay just yesterday and I'm absolutely stoked with the IQ of this lens wide open. Soft on extreme corners (even stopped down), but I wont be using this for landscape shots so it doesn't bother me.

OM-D + Fotga adapter(lets the lens focus past infinity)
Shot in raw then converted in LR. Colors, exposure, luminance, and saturation tweaked to my liking but straight of the camera it's still amazing. Click on image to view full size.

I shot these yesterday in Govan Old Parish Church.

They're Viking Hogsback Stones commissioned by the Lords of Strathclyde as a visual representation of their power in the 10th Century,

All three are wide open at f2 on my 44-2 on the GF1 with the only LR 'tweak' being a shift in WB to reflect the tungsten lighting.

Helios 44-2 on a snowy day

We just got a fresh 6 plus inches of snow this Tuesday. I have not been taking many pictures this winter so I decided I better get out there and get a few before spring arrived. I took my Helios 44-2 with G2 and grabbed several in the morning and a couple in the early evening. I did a little PP using CyberLink PhotoDirector. Here are three. Feel free to comment.

I was out in the sunshine today with the 44-2 on my G2. I was looking for insect life and I found some - it's not macro but I got as close as I could!

This thing focuses surprisingly closely. The Helios lenses are known for pretty swirly bokeh, but so far it's all very tame. Maybe it doesn't get crazy until there are a lot of light points in the background.

The swirly bokeh seems quite difficult to acheive, but this shot really has it – more luck than skill. Shame it's not quite in focus!
