Beside these very nice impressions on nature, there are also obvious signs of negative human impact, like this:

(dead, young northern gannet)

There are many, many young gannets who died because they were not able to free themselves from the plastic cords. And as you can see, the amount of plastic is huge and increases year after year.

Very nice bird pictures. I've been to Helgoland before, but only in february to see the seal cubs. But apparently for those it is better to go late November, early December. Can't see exif, but I'm assuming it's 300f4?

December is also fine for young seals since one can still enter the beach while in the later time of the year, the beach (or at least the very occupied parts) is closed. Best time for photography during bird migration from the north and to the north is Semptember/October/November and April/May/June, respectively. Depends on which birds you wants to see.

Most images are taken with 300mm 4.0 & MC-14, some with the 300mm 2.8 & EC-14 or EC-20.

I'm not a big birder, but I appreciate a good bird picture nonetheless and yours are great! Thanks for the tips with regards to travel time.
