Any thoughts or hands-on experience with this software? Alternatives?
Great SW...I use Nik HDR Efex Pro 2 more and it's free now in the Nik (Google) collection....but I have used Photomatix for years and it's the gold standard.
Thanks for that, just purchased the license.
The free Google Nik Collection also has pretty good hdr function, but having an alternative one is always welcome.
Much better than HDR processing in LR CC. You do have to go beyond the presets and your own adjustments with the sliders. The presets provide a pretty fake effect.

I like to photograph with older lenses and my skills are mediocre at best. The outcome is often very flat. I use Photomatix pro most of the time to upload one single file (RAW or JPG) and choose one of their presets.
EM5+Pentax 135mm + cheap 2 X converter. Very hazy, due to the distance. Can be repaired in LR, butso much easier, quicker and more consistently in Photomatix Pro:
