Probably seems like a small thing, but I noticed it uses same battery as the GX7. That is very nice for those of us upgrading.

Yep, same battery as the GX7, which makes it nice for people who have upgraded their camera.

I've read in other links it's a smaller capacity battery, not the same as gx7

It takes a DMW-BLG10, which is the same as the GF6, GX7, and LX100, but different than the BLC12 that is in the G-series cameras.

I am not sure that I am seeing the difference between the GX80 and GX85?

The GX85 is the North American version that does NTSC and 30/60fps. The GX80 model is PAL and does 25/50fps. Rumor has it that the same camera is being called the GX7 II in Japan, so Panasonic Marketing is having a bit too much fun here.

I guess the only positive is that if you are ordering gray market, you know from the model if it is the wrong version for your country.

Oh, no, same battery as LX100 (protecting the investment) ... It's getting harder and harder to resist :)

I believe the term is "job security".

I can understand the GX80 moniker after someone referenced Canon with their naming like 6D (FF), 60D (upper level APS-C), and 600D (lower level APS-C), so if Panasonic were to do the same with the GX8 and GX80 it may make sense, but having three names (GX80, GX85, and GX7 Mk.II) is a bit absurd IMO.

It's very tempting, apart from maybe the 16:9 EVF. It's the one from the GX7 apparently. Not sure I like the idea of that, but I've never picked up a GX7 so can't really comment...

@coffeecat@coffeecat: From what I see, it's the same unit that's in the LX100; and that's a pleasure to use IMO - if you set the refresh rate as high as possible, anyway. It's sharp and contrasty, and the information doesn't get in the way.

I guess it's a question of preference more than usability.

Canon has multiple names for the same camera as well. The Rebel line has xxxD, Txi, and Kiss x for years. The naming convention stopped bothering me after couple years of shooting Canon. :dash2:

I'm glad the EVF is no longer tilting so it can be smaller, but I really hope it's not the same quality as GX7. After using the EVF on EM5II, I don't think I have any nice word left for the GX7 EVF. ;)

The early reviews have been overly positive so far and it looks like Panasonic has a winner in terms of image quality. Was thinking of upgrading my G3 to an em5 ii or em10 ii but this one will be my next purchase once we start seeing some body-only deals start popping up.

The size and tiltability of the EVF in the GX8 is one of my favourite features. Especially once I got the bigger eyecup.

Try the one on GX7. I bet you won't like it. :D GX8 EVF is much improved.

I'm sure it's a nice camera, but why do Panasonic keep churning out so many models so quickly and with very similar feature sets? Just how deep are their R&D pockets?
