    GX8 owners,

I recently bought GX8. While reading through the user menu, I noticed that there's a "recording 4k photos" function (on P178 of the Advanced User Menu). I'm confused by the existence of such function. If I understand it correctly, 4k = 4096 x 2160 pixels. When setting aspect ratio to 4:3, GX8 produces an image size of 5184 x 3888. So why would anybody wants to shoot in 4k?

    Thanks!

It should 3o frames per second at what ever shutter speed you select - can help capture the decisive moment in fast action. Try it with a DFD lens for BIF - I can see it being killer with the new PL 100-400. works well even with the oly 75-300. Also for macro shots of flying insects - things you can't get at 6 fps with focus.

Because you can capture at 30 frames per second! It is also limited to JPGs. Its uses are limited, but could be fun to play with.

Ha! I see. That makes sense! Thank you very much!

By the way, how you guys like GX8 so far? I tested on the 45-200mm lens and my Leica 1.7 will arrive this week. Can't wait to see the improvement!

Hugo, are you doubting the image quality from a frame extracted from 4K video or 4K Photo (and now Post Focus) ???
It wasn't that long ago that an 8mp body (Canon or Nikon) cost 6K.

DK71, me too on wishing Panasonic/Leica would hurry up on the 100-400g or Oly with the 300/4. I too want to do BIF via 4K Photo capture.

Hugo here is a 4K Photo frame extract when I had the GH4 (sold it to get the GX8)-

The camera is capable of far more than you'll see from the 45-200. That lens won't do the camera justice.

We're packing to cycle-camp for three days. The GX8 is packed.
I chose the Lumix 100-300, the 7-14, and the 12-35mm for the trip.
Someday (fingers crossed) I'll be packing the 100-400g.
