I can't for the life of me find where/how to turn this off in either manual.

When I turn the camera on to take a picture, the time and date is displayed on the rear screen. Also when I switch from playback mode to picture taking mode it's displayed then as well. It's up for 3-4 seconds and I find it incredibly annoying. Please tell me there is a way to turn this off?

I'm with you. Same thing on my G6. It's annoying because I switch to camera capture mode when I'm ready to shoot, and then that display hides the relevant settings. What I do is half press the shutter, which closes that info and shows the aperture and shutter speed.

Don't think you can but if you just tap the shutter it disappears.

If you don't mind me asking, why is this such an issue for you?
