Hallo all,

Has anyone updated their GX1 firmware and seen any sort of improvements in the Auto White Balance as claimed by Panasonic?

I do understand that auto White Balance is not the strength of Panasonic, and it gets transferred to the RAw as well.

I am thinking of updating the firmware.

Other than that, can you guys give some useful tips on how to nail the GX1 white balance settings to give a better result in different lighting conditions?
- bright sunlight
- indoor with flourescent light
- indoor with bulb lights
- indoor during daytime with no lights switched on.
- Dim dinner restaurant shots

If you're shooting RAW you can import and auto apply WB settings after the shot is taken.

If you want to do less PP then you can set the WB per scene. The GX1 has modes for all the scenes you listed under the WB button.

Bright sunlight I go with the "Sunlight" setting for white balance.

Everything else, I almost always take a custom white balance. It's easy to learn and quick to do, as long as you have some white surface: piece of paper, back of envelope, napkin ...
