    Hi
Sorry to go off slightly off topic but just looked at the files on my GX1.....first one started with 100-0001 and now I'm on 101-0236....does this seem right? Bought brand new from UK dealer. Why would it start at 100- , and theres no way I've took 10000 shots for the current number to be what it is? Can someone with a GX1 look at their file numbers please.
    Again sorry for hijacking.
    Thanks

Right now I'm at 1130439. I figure my actual shutter count is somewhere around 10,000. Not sure how to make any sense of the numbers. Haven't figured out how to change this anywhere.

...so going off that would 13000 plus actuations sound about right? If so mines 1000 plus which is probably about right.

i usually don't format that much but I've done it 3 times already and I haven't noticed the numbering going back. i would be really pissed if that happens.

It's like this with all the Panasonic cameras I've had (lx3, lx5, gf1, gf2, gf3 and gx1). It seems the fifth digit from the right indicate 1000 where other brands use the fourth digit, meaning 10001 on Panasonic is 1001 on a Nikon or Fuji.

You are probably looking for file number reset. You want to disable it so it doesn't reset the sequence back to 1 every time it sees an empty card.

Take a look at pages 73 and 191 of the manual. Basically 100- is a folder number (the default first folder) and the following 4 digits are the picture number. You can have 9999 pictures in a folder then the folder number increments by 1. The folder number can be manually incremented 1 using No. Reset and picture numbers start with 0001. If you format the card, the folder number will stay the same. If you format then No. Reset, the folder number will reset to 100-. The most folders available is 999-, then a format is required.

Thanks Dan but.....my folder number is at 101 .....no way have I took over 9999 photos. It does seem like the fifth digit from the right represents the 1000 for some reason. Actually just looked at some files on my card and it goes from 100-0999 then jumps to 101-0001....so I dunno' why the fourth digit from the right isn't used. Again sorry to the OP for hijacking although I'm sure its all useful info.

My finger hit 9 too many times. 999 is the maximum number of pictures in a folder. (Page 191 in manual.) My apologies.
