Is it just me, or does the GX1 produce really nice black and whites? I don't know how to describe it. It's really not that much different from other cameras, but there seems to be some quality about the files that makes them good black and whites. Almost a film grain to them that is very pleasing.

Maybe I'm dreaming this up... Anyone else feel this way?

I like the B&W files I'm getting from the GX1. I haven't done any testing against any other cameras, but it has been delivering for me too in that regard.

For the brief time that I tried one, I thought so too. I think that the noise/grain did tend to suit b&w. The only issue I recall having was that there was very little margin in the highlights for overexposure which was a marked difference to the E-M5 and GH1 that I normally shoot with.

I haven't tried shooting in B&W on my GX1; are you using default settings or have you customized them?

I've been shooting in RAW. I suppose more than anything, it just seemed like the files took to b&w conversion well.

Alex - any chance of seeing some of the pics? Or a link to the right Flickr file? I'm considering going in for a GX1 so very interested to see what you mean.

All of these were taken with the GX1 and either the P14 or the PL25. They've seen Lightroom, and the last one was processed with Silver Efex Pro 2:
