Hi - I recently picked up an Oly PL3 for £200 and loving it - it's my first proper camera and I've found this great forum really helpful so I thought I'd say hi.

I've been using the kit lens and an old minolta rokkor 50mm 1.7 - just ordered a black 45mm 1.8 too.

I bought it for taking photo's of kids, but ended up doing a lot of star-trails in my back-garden for some reason.

    with the kit lens:

& I've been getting some great pics with the the old Minolta:

I look forward to doing some more posts & getting involved!

Welcome! I live in north Wiltshire, just outside Calne. Whereabouts are you, Timmy?

Here's a local landmark, the Caen Hill locks, just outside Devizes:

I'm down in Salisbury - funny I often pass though Devizes but never got round to visiting the locks - no shortage of photographic material in Wiltshire anyhow!

All you need is a heavy tripod, a £20 remote shutter timer off ebay, and be prepared to practise to find what technique works best with your camera.

These photo's are a series of 2 min exposures taken 2 seconds apart - I stack them in photoshop and use "lighten" blending mode to merge them, but there's plenty of great startrails software that does it all for you.

You'll need to turn off dark-frame substraction (which doubles the length of your shot making trails impossible) and deal with the hot pixels later - the better your camera the less hot pixels you'll get - my PL3 is pretty terrible for hot pixels at very long exposures.
