These are hand held, very low light unfortunately. Therefore a little noisy at ISO 1600

I used to do a lot of diving around the New England coast, Florida etc.

Really though, I changed my Avatar to increase my gravitas for future posts... plus Gary Ayala looked so cool with that gas mask.....

Yes, the gas mask is always a good look.

Nice images. I like the color temperature change with the skylights. The blues and oranges are really a nice contrast.

I really like the photos!

However, if it were up to me, I'd throw in a little noise reduction. I never use my G1 above 800 ISO because I'm not fond of the noise levels at 1600. However I've found that LR3's NR works really well on architectural shots like those.

Here's a couple of my favorite NY shots, both low light with G1, with a touch of NR.

Awesome shots guys. Here's my contribution of Grand Central Station images from my recent trip to NYC. :smile:

This photo was taken outside of Grand Central Station (I think) with a hand-held EP-1 using the Oly 9-18mm zoom. The ISO was set at 1600 and exposure was 1/13 sec at f/5.6.

This next photo was taken inside Grand Central Station with a hand-held EP-1 using the Oly 9-18mm zoom. The ISO was set at 1600 and exposure was 1/20 sec at f/5.6.

The final photo was taken inside Grand Central Station with an EP-1 using the Oly 9-18mm zoom. The ISO was set at 200 and the exposure was 10.0 sec at f/18. I put the camera on the ledge of a staircase and using the timer to trigger the shutter so as to minimize vibration.

Some great shots - particularly like the indoor time exposures with all of the ghosts of people passed (recently!). Here are a couple, one from outside, one inside, both LX-5. The indoor shot could have been anywhere, but it was, in fact, Grand Central...

I wish I would have thought to plunk the G1 down on the railing.... great idea.

I messed around some with noise reduction in aperture, and decided I sort of like the look okay.

At any rate, ISO 800 created too slow a shutter speed for hand holding with the kit lens... I got to 1600 when I realized I needed it for 50th of a second.

Good reason to buy the 14 prime?

Thansk! It is not HDR, straight G1 shot with the kit lens. This is before I owned any other lenses, and before I really new what I was doing, so that makes it all that much more fortunate I did reprocess it about a year after I took it when I had a better idea of what I was doing in Lightroom, that's when I added the NR.

The shutter was f3.5, 14mm, ISO800, 1/6s handheld (IS is a blessing)

It's not super obvious at this size, but if you click through to the larger size, you can see the original was pretty noisy.

I love this shot! I never would have thought to do a long exposure in a lit area like that, what a great idea, I'm definitely going to try that I love that the guys in the middle stood so still, that really makes the shot.

I used that technique at the Red Bull Illume event on Houston. My wife was like WTH are you doing, wont all those people ruin the shot? Then I showed her the image with all the people removed and she said cool!

I think the only lenses we're missing are the obvious ones - the 9-18 and 7-14 ... Anyone got some UWA shots of Grand Central Terminal?

I normally like to use a tripod for indoor/low light shots, but I didn't feel like lugging one around the snowy streets of New York. Quite often I'll improvise and use ledges, handrails, garbage cans, mailboxes, cars, curbs, whatever's handy to get a steady shot. For some reason, I get lots of looks from passers by - even in New York!

Yeah, I lucked out with those two guys because they really draw one's eye into the picture. The "ghosts" moving around them create a neat effect, which I have to admit surprised me because I had no idea that would happen when I was taking the shot. I'm not even sure why I decided to try a shutter speed that long...

By the way, those fellows stayed in that position for the next shot, which was 13 seconds long at f/22. The photo turned out almost as good, except that there were a few more people who stayed still long enough to register.

I used the Oly 9-18mm for my three shots. The first two were taken at 18mm and the third was taken at 9mm.

It's neat to see that some of us took some very similarly themed shots..boy I love NYC! Earlier was a post asking about using a UWA on grand central, I had my 9-18mm that lived on the cameras all trip.
