What is a fair/reasonable price for a 'hackable' gh1 and a 14-140? Will this be a good combo for travel photography? I currently have a gf3+20mm, but wonder if I should pick up this combo instead due to the zoom for an upcoming backpacking trip.

If I could only carry one lens on a trip, the 14-140mm would unquestionably be the one. I'm sure mine has over 50,000 miles on it.

On the short end, 28mm is IMHO not quite wide enough for good buildng interiors like churches and palaces. For that, I carry a 9-18 but an lusting after a 12mm f2.

On the long end, it is not long enough for wildlife and birds. When that is the objective, the 100-300mm can be added.

But as a first or only travel lens, I don't think it can be beat. Here are a couple of shots, including 100% crops. Either image would look great at 17 1/2" x 13" -- the biggest I can print.

If you are buying used, I wouldn't pay more than $300 for a GH1. With patience you can do better than that. Maybe $400 for the 14-140. If you don't mind ebay I'd recommend looking for someone selling that combo for $600 - $650. It was a pretty standard pairing a few years ago, so you might find some listed that way.

Keep in mind that all GH1s are hackable, so you don't need to worry about what you are buying in that regard.

I just bought a GH2 with the 14-140 for $1219 from Samys. I know you are looking GH1 but this might be a compromise.
