I notice that it takes the eye level finder a second or two to refresh after I take a shot. This problems seem to be independent of io issues since I can use bursts of 3 shots (the only number I've tested so far) while waiting for the finder to update.
Is there any way to speed this up?

I don't have a GH3, but I do have other Panasonic cams. There is an Auto Review or similar which allows different review settings, such as 5, 3 and 1 second or off. In the case of burst you may want to turn that setting to off

You can go back to live view instantly by half pressing the shutter button after taking a shot rather than waiting for the preset review period selected.
Otherwise go to "custom" menu screen 6/8, select "auto review" and select the review period you want, "off" means the EVF or screen doesn't review the picture you have just taken and instantly goes to live view.

That's it! Who wants to review when you can be taking pictures?
