Possibly I've done something weird in the setup, but with my gh3 in "A" mode & AFS ... when I press the release half way down, I get an enlarged focus spot/rectangle that takes up the entire finder area, the camera then focuses, returns to full frame view & finally allows me to take my shot. This might be cool in some circumstances; it's like manual focus assist in slow motion and on steroids.

How do I turn this off?

Isn't that just the spot focus (cross)? It's great for critical focus, I.e portrait with fast lenses wide open, but sloow.

If so, just change the focus type either in quick menu or by factory default one of the buttons near the dial/updownleftright button,to the left, takes you there directly. Choose whatever you prefer, multi point, face detect, one point (square, which you can make smaller btw)
