When I'm traveling alone, I sometimes want to take a photo of myself. I like to set it to the 10 second countdown timer, but I'm often unable to focus on the exact position I will be in at the time of the photo. Is it possible for it to focus then shoot the photo at the end of the timer instead of focus, timer, shoot? I'm using the Panny 20mm 1.7 lens on the GH2.

I have had success with this method

Choice is 1) set distance manually by manual focus mode

or, even easier, set the dial to face recognition or specifically your registered face. With the 20 mm it should get you darn close to what you seek. Or, look at a Vello brand trigger device which you can hold in your hand and get a signal to focus when you feel ready and hiding the device proceed to release the GH 2 shutter....

Not a big problem since there are multiple solutions. First I would try the face recognition mode and see how it works... next might be to buy the Vello trigger set at B and H for about 60 bucks. Good luck,
