I need to have it set to shoot Without Lens in order to use the Rokinon fisheye lens.

It is okay to just leave it on that setting when using other lenses?

It doesn't seem to make any difference when using another lens.

I always have it set and never had any problems.

  3. I figure the only reason Panasonic does that is to prevent any damage to the shutter by foreign objects when there is no lens mounted on the shutter. For example; accidentally tripping the shutter while cleaning the sensor. As long as you don't go sticking your finger in the camera and pressing the shutter button you should be fine.

Ah...that might explain why the setting is there

I'm still in recovery from the few times I cleaned the sensors on my dslrs.

I haven't cleaned one in a long time.

I'd rather touch up any spots in Photoshop!

Someone once speculated that the camera might be marginally more responsive with that set to "off," but I don't believe anyone presented any evidence to support the conjecture.

I guess we'll have to wait until someone performs a controlled test to let us know if there's a difference. In the meanwhile I'll just leave mine set to shoot without lens because I know I'm going to forget where it is buried in the menu to set it again!

I've left my G1 in that setting for a few years, so yeah - you're OK. ;)

The only problem you may encounter is that with repeated use of Shoot Without Lens, your Panasonic may begin to think it's an Olympus.

Would mind it thinking it was an Olympus...

I'd like it to have the jpg color my E-PL1 has!
