Thanks to my job for an automotive supplier, I had the amazing chance to visit this year's Frankfurt Motor Show (also known as IAA) on the first press day, which basically means 1/10th of the usual crowd, lots of press events from every major carmaker, and lots of pretty girls surrounding the amazing new cars.

Having now transitioned to m4/3 at the beginning of the summer, I was eager to try out my E-M5 in this situation. I went with my usual kit: P12-35, O40-150 and the lovely fisheye from Samyang/Rokinon.

OK, so now I've managed to show you 3 pictures without any actual car, you'll have to forgive the next one:

Now I've talked about pretty girls, and I better show you what I meant by that:

So here you go, thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed it. I really tried to show something different from what you get on most automotive news websites (aside from the girls, I'm afraid). Feel free to comment, whether you think I did a decent job or totally screwed up, any argumented feedback is good feedback to me.

Lovely brunette in the white dress, terrible "raccoon" eyes; however, thanks for sharing the images.

Indeed, the lighting is pretty bad for the girls and I was not carrying a speedlight since the lighting of the cars is great (and I haven't gotten around to buying one just yet, waiting to sell my 430EXII first). Now I understand why most pro's had their big 580 EXII's on at all times.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys.

Actually the 430EXII would have served you well in this circumstance. All you would have needed was a RF trigger and a bounce card or diffuser.

I tried playing with the 430EX on the E-M5, didn't turn out to well. To be honest I'm a complete newbie when it comes to flash and I haven't passed the TTL + on-camera stage yet.

That, and I was there for work (as in, small shoulder bag only to stash the camera when talking to potential customers, and wearing a suit). I really took as small a kit as possible.

All of which doesn't change the fact that you're probably right. I'm just not there yet technically, and haven't found the motivation to dive into off-camera manual flash photography.
