Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal

    Fountains Abbey is a 12th Century monastery near Ripon in North Yorkshire. After the demise of the monastery the estate passed into the hands of the Gresham family and then to John Aislabie who created the formal gardens in the 18th Century.

    I had a photo expedition there on Friday 19 October and show a couple of the results here

    Very nice. Can't help but notice the spotlights in the Abbey. Would love to se this lit up at night.

    Beautiful shots, incredible history. I've walked through Mayan ruins and the sense of age and the echoes of the past are awe inspiring. Thanks for posting these. :thumbup:

    Thank you for your kind comments. I found out on the day I visited that the site is illuminated on Saturday evenings in October -- too late for me to make arrangements! Maybe next year...
