Dusted off my old Nikon D70, put a cheap Chinese glassed PK - Nikon adapter on it,
and plonked an
Auto Chinon f:1.9/50 mm into that.

CCD colours are pretty nice, don't you think?

I save myself a lot of post-processing by getting it right in the camera ... .

Same here, but with the D70, I develop the NEF in Snapseed, as it only saves "basic" Jpeg, not full quality Jpeg, when shooting RAW+Jpeg.

And I admit that I sometimes give myself a couple extra f:stops of light when developing, as the in-camera light meter is disabled when shooting with non-CPU lenses. And I'm under-exposure prone.

Another Nikon stroke of genius...

I don't know if it's still like that on newer Nikon cameras. It was off-putting enough then (2004) to make me avoid Nikon totally since.

How difficult can it be to enable the light meter? Even Sony has managed to do that! Just a money grabbing tactic on the part of Nikon. Like the no-IBIS tactic...

Erik, one of many unique selling points of all Olympus digital cameras has been the ability of the cameras to save LSF JPEGs with only 2.7:1 compression.

Along with their wonderfully well sorted CFA that almost entirely eliminates the necessity for fiddling with colours.

I hope that my current camera bodies outlast me - a goodly possibility!

Erik, one of many unique selling points of all Olympus digital cameras has been the ability of the cameras to save LSF JPEGs with only 2.7:1 compression.

Along with their wonderfully well sorted CFA that almost entirely eliminates the necessity for fiddling with colours.

I hope that my current camera bodies outlast me - a goodly possibility!

Pentaxes also saves very usable Jpegs when shooting RAW+Jpeg. And does not disable any light meters when shooting old primes on adapters. Another Pentax plus is the ability to shoot DNG+Jpeg...

But I do think Nikon's got the colours from the CCD right. Credit where credit's due. Nikon is fumbling so much, they probably need it.​

I was always impressed with the colours from my D60 (CCD) and never felt my subsequent D90 and D7000 (CMOS) quite hit the same highs in that front, despite being significant upgrades in many other ways.

Simon, the colours from my E-1 (5 MPx, CCD) and my E-510 (10 MPx, CMOS) were all but identical. I've also edited quite a few E-500 files (8 MPx, CCD), again very similar. OTOH, my E-30 required a permanent adjustment to its colour axes. Not a problem with my E-M1 MkI or MkII.

I've got the same feelings about my Pentaxes.
My first, the K-100D Super (CCD) and my later K-7, K-5II, and K-3 (all CMOS) have the same way of rendering colours.

It's likely that both the Olympus and Pentax R&D departments have a lot of employees that really cares about photography.

And I'm not talking about smartphone photos here...

Case in point: Pentax design, which is really outstanding. Not even Olympus comes close.
But the OM-D E-M1 series is not that far behind, I must admit. With a grip that's a grip...
