How good is the built in flash for the GX-7
Not great. Small, not powerful, close to the lens axis. Just about what you would expect just looking at it. If you need something for a bit of fill indoors, it'll do just fine but don't expect to fill an outdoors backlit portrait with it very effectively.
It'll trigger an optical slave just fine, though:
Just turn it way down and point it away from the subject.,
Well, it's a tiny built-in flash, so everything you know about them applies. One thing I like, though, is that it is possible to hold it so it fires straight up for a bounce on landscape format photos. Finger gymnastics required, though.
