I recently acquired a FL600R. When i mount my 60mm macro on my camera the FL600R reads 42mm.

Will the flash properly light macro shots with the 60mm?

Do I need to adjust any camera/flash setting to get the proper exposure?

There will be no issues illuminating a narrower angle, such as the 60mm.
The reason for the adjustment is to give you maximum reach. The beam is more focused when set at 42 mm as opposed to lets say 25 mm.
Inside the flash is a small motor that moves the bulb relative to its reflector to make this adjustment.
If you use the 60 mm at moderate distances, then you should have no problems.
For macro work you will get much better results if you use a diffuser and even better to use the flash off camera.
