This week I picked up an E-M1 and took advantage of the promo to get the "free" FL-300R flash. I already have an FL-600R. Is the 300 worth keeping or should I sell while it is still unused? Anyone need an FL300R?

I would keep it.. it can be fired remotely from the EM1 along with the 600... if you are into portraits, product photography etc it can be useful as a second light source. Also small enough to carry around most of the time, and good for bouncing light off walls

this was done with a 600 and 300

I plan on getting a 600R soon but will keep my 300R. There will be times when you will need a versatile second flash. Plus, it's good to have a backup in case something happens to your main flash.

    Stephen,
You and Brian are giving me some good reasons to maybe keep this. Going to have to get some rechargeable AAA's if I do.

    Hi Rich!

I kept the one that came as a freebie with the E-M5. I have the FL-600R (as you do) and figure that the FL-300R makes a light (no pun intended) emergency backup. I haven't used it much, other than for test shots, but it takes up little room in the bag so it tags along when I haul the FL-600R. The FL-300R is going for @ $99 U.S. on Amazon (used). It's cheap insurance - and I'm not willing to haul two FL-600 flashes "just in case".

    For batteries I use Eneloops:

    http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-SEC-N16...&qid=1382822642&sr=1-8&keywords=sanyo+eneloop

They seem to have enough power and once charged will maintain a charge in the drawer for months.

Of course if one needs just AAA's or AA's there are other packages for just those choices; I bought the whole ganz because I use them for just about everything around here that takes batteries.

    Regards,

    Jim

I was never into flashes, but I got it free with my E-M5 and while I do not use it a lot, I find it extremely useful whether on or off camera. I probably wouldn't buy it full price, but for free, I find it considerably more useful than the included flash.
