Does anyone know where there might be instructions for updating the OM-D E-M5 firmware using the SD card as a transfer medium? I can't find my USB cable (it is apparently different from all my other USB cables - this makes #5 USB types), and while it is not urgent, I would like to take advantage of the udpated firmware.

    Thanks,

Belay that question. I found the cable and did the update. I am now at camera v. 1.5 (and it did take two cycles to get from 1.2 to 1.5).

FWIW, you can't do this with Olympus cameras. All updates must be done through their software using the USB cable. It's a common point of complaint.

Still complaining. And Olympus is still not doing anything.

Sorry you are completely wrong on this. Updating can be done with an SD card, I've done it for my pen f.
    See here. https://lightsnowdev.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Capture-1024x485.png
    It's simple and it works

Yes but the replies I've seen were today and 10-20 minutes ago from my posting.
So not all have the message

Interesting, albeit folks will need to go direct to the website, your link is an image.

Still, the Olympus cable is cheap and easy to acquire. Under $7 on Amazon.

With the EM1.2 they've gone to USBC though, so that'll make things a little easier in the future.

The one you specifically replied to was indeed from almost 5 years ago.

I'm really new here. Did I do something wrong? I've been googling to no avail and found this thread to be the only answer in the results. :(

Sorry for doing something wrong. I'm no good with forums. I guess I'll be banned for this? Sorry...

You did nothing wrong - it was a valid question and Im glad that you are now able to update using the SD method.
You came to the right place and we are looking forward to you posting your images.
Just beware of old farts blowing off wind

No, you did nothing wrong, just me answering without looking at the original posting & date, & I would have replied differently had I looked & read properly.

You're quoting a post I wrote in October 2012. At that time, there was no provision for FW updates from SD cards.

    Happily, this has now changed.
