Hi, I'm not used to oly file naming. My nikons always start with 0001 and continue from there. My OMD which i just got last week started like that with "A220001". Then I got a second memory card and noticed it started over with "A230001". Why is that?

I believe mine starts with a P, and then the next letter represents the month, which runs from 1-9, A-C (representing January to December), the next 2 letters are the date from 01-31. The last four letters are just the photo number, so if the photo says PA220001, it means it's the first photo taken on Oct 22.

    Somewhat off topic...

Personally I have changed mine to have my initials as the first three letters, then the number 0. The camera then numbers the last 4 itself from 0001 to 9999. Once I have taken about 9500 photos I will change the 0 to 1, and 9500 photos later, the 1 to 2, etc. So I should be able to take about 95,000 photos using this method... And then I will switch to letters (A-Z) and get another 250,000.

Oh, so it's going by date???
Can that be changed to just continue numbering without starting over every day?

FWIW, the P means you are shooting in sRGB. No P is Adobe RGB.

I believe you can change it, as someone else has suggested, but I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks for explaining what the P means! Learn something new everyday!

WOW... who knew? I just switched my camera to Adobe RGB and looked at some photos named _A220001 and couldn't figure out why the "blank." I never made the connection.

No, change filename from reset to auto...the days will still change, but the numbering will continue to incement until 9999...then a new folder will be created and startiong back at 0001.

And before someone asks, since there's only 1 character for the month it's hexadecimal, A=10, B=11, C=12.
