On the weekend my brother and I tripped off to Melbourne to Australia's International Airshow based in Avalon. My brother flies aircraft himself and I like well built machines so we both loved it. Melbourne weather isn't that great from what I've heard but It was absolutely perfect for the 2 days we were there. I had my OM-D and 40-150 which I used most of the time and occasionally put on the PL25. For some reason I took out the 7-14 and It was one of those stupid mistakes, but oh well. We were allowed about 30 meters from the runway so everything was fairly close and the I had no worries with not enough reach using the 40-150. I found it wasn't that fast to lock on focus but you learn to pan and make do with what you have. The PL25 had no problems with focus lock.
I have never seen so many huge lenses in one place, it was insane guys. One fella had a nikon lens so big he put it on the ground to connect the camera.

I know sometimes plane pictures are boring so I've tried to add some interesting ones. My aim is to show that m43 gear can deliver and I loved walking around the 2 days with my om-d.

Only having a PL25 as my widest lens made it a bit hard to back far enough to get the Dinosaur of a machine in the frame. The C17 Globemaster can lift 73 ton of payload and costs a whopping $380 million.

  3. Nice work mate, and the weather sure does look 100 times better than what we had up here! Those Boomerangs always were a stubby looking thing. I think I saw one once at an air show at the RAAF base at Amberley.

    Nice work.
Thanks for showing what the 40-150 can do. Have recently purchased one but not had a chance to use it to its potential.

Wonder what the shots were like from the chap with the bazooka??

Hey, don't knock that bazooka. He's actually an optician checking the pilots' eyes for them as they fly past.

Lovely photos though. I'm very jealous of the weather, the aircraft and the skill of the man taking the pictures.

Nice set, you got some good light that day. Amazing that there are still fully functional Boomerangs!

Thanks mate. I borrowed the lens off my brother and I am surprised at the results. I didn't use a hood either.

That thing must weigh a ton. What would you call it... a telescope!

Thanks for the nugget of encouragement their Cedric!

I'm proud to showcase some of Australia to you guys:thumbup:

I'm not sure myself, leaning towards nikon aye.

He went up and down 3 times while I was watching him. Each time was followed by a chimp. Haha, even pro's do it.

Thanks for chiming in Chris, I appreciate it.

After seeing the boomerang at the show I like it alot more. They played 40's music as a soundtrack while it flew and it created a great atmosphere as the radial hammered away.
