Well Chris - I had an E-PL5 as my first u43 camera and it convinced me to go headlong into the system. My only real recommendations are:

    - Shoot raw
    - Get some good glass
    - Buy a VF2 or VF4
    - Get a couple of spare batteries

The camera itself is fairly simple, although the Olympus menu system takes some getting used to. My advice would be to charge the batteries, find a spare couple of hours, make a coffee and just play with the menus and their effects until you've learned it.

  3. I've had mine for almost three years now, and no plans to upgrade. It's still my main camera.

And lets not forget this thread E-PL5 custom setting changes - huge improvement! which was essential to me when I first got my E-PL5.

A word of warning though. The shutter button WILL eventually fall off and the rear dial WILL eventually be erratic. That's not a bad thing though, because it'll give you the perfect excuse to upgrade.

The erratic rear dial, oh yes. You get used to it, though.

I rocked a MCG -2 grip with it, it really improved the handling. $40ish on ebay...

Set the anti-shock to 1/8 second. It helps a lot.

I purchased a used VF4, for my EPL5 and have no regrets. I use it all of the time. It's a very nice addition to the camera.
