I have a few old OM lenses and have been thinking of getting this adapter can anyone comment on them. I suppose that you focus first and then stop the lens down to meter, would that be correct?

You could do that, but I've found that with the VF-2 or VF-4 I often don't need to. Just set the aperture and focus. With LV Boost turned off and spot metering it's WYSIWYG. If I want to check critical focus I just hit the magnify button. Some positive exposure compensation can also be dialed in to brighten things if you need to. If the scene is still too dark to see the subject the shot will probably be underexposed anyway.
