I've noticed that the ep-3 has bad noise (blue or white dots) when doing long exposures and assumed that it was the m43 format. I recently got an older gf1 and compared it to the ep3 with the same lens and settings, no noise. Waiting for my omd to get here and compare it with the other two cameras.

Is it just the ep3 that has this problem?

You need to turn on the Noise Reduction...Custom Menu > Gear G > Noise Reduction = On. What it does is after you've taken a long exposure picture, the camera will take another picture without opening the curtain and then mix the two in order to eliminate those "noise".

....and bear in mind that noise reduction is only available with single shot drive mode.

Yes I've made sure noise reduction was off and it was in raw.

+1 - turn NR *on* for long exposures. It will take the image and then take a second image for the same length of time with the shutter closed to look for "hot" pixels under current operating conditions. Page 85 of the E-P3 manual - "Noise Reduction" is for long exposures, "Noise Filter" is for high ISO.
