    Hi.

I wrote about this in dpreview - here's the link with images.

    http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3376848

The summary of the problem is that I have a panasonic gx1 and an Olympus em5.

When using identical settings and lenses with both cameras and the Polaroid pl-108af flash there is serious under exposure with the em5.

I have no idea why this happens and really wanted this flash to work with the em5 properly.

I now have an opportunity to purchase a metz 24 for a good price.
This is probably identical to the pl108af but possibly better quality assurance and maybe will work fine with the em5.

Does anyone have experience with the metz 24 and em5?

    Thanks!!!

I have this flash and have used it on EM5, EPM2, LX5 and EPM1 when I owned it. I also have FL300R & FL600R. I have to increase flash power when bouncing all of them, but don't recall any exposure issues with Metz 24 on any of these bodies.

Thx for reminder, been thinking of posting my Metz 24 for sale.

    That's helpful to know.

So without being scientific the metz 24 is similar in output to the fl300?
    If so then it's fine.

Because the polaroid knock off works wonderfully with my gx1 but very poorly on olympus bodies - the em5 and xz1.

Maybe I got a bad polaroid copy and the metz will be better.

I think so, but the Metz quotes GN at ISO 100, and FL300R quotes GN at ISO 200. So not entirely sure. I keep meaning to compare the two side by side but haven't got 'round to it yet.

The Metz is a nice little flash, especially on the LX5, as it bounces at up to 90º. FL300R only bounces up to ~70º IIRC, prolly why I haven't sold it yet. FL300R is most useful off camera IMNSHO.

An update for what it's worth...

I got the metz 24 used off ebay and it works perfectly on my em5.
Took some test shots to verify and it seems my polaroid pl108af works great on panasonic cams but seems to output tue same weak output with oly cams regardless of ttl and flash compensation settings.

Guess the systems are compatible but not identical.

Does it work OK as a master controller for a slave flash?

Thx for the update, yehuda. Glad the Metz is working well for you. pdk42, the Metz 24 is a very basic flash. It can't control other flashes.
