Got curious to see how well it worked, specially compared with the mechanical Olympus 1.4X teleconverter. I paced the distance to the subjects to be about 100'. Shot hand held at 200mm focal length with the 50-200 ED zuiko 4/3 lens. I'd say it's not bad at all...

Wow! I didn't know WERA was still around. I raced with them in the late 70's.

Oh, yeah, nice shots and the digital zoom does work better than just cropping.

as far as I can see using Aperture the digital tele only works on the JPEG - if you shoot RAW plus JPG, then the RAW image is the full frame and the jpeg is a crop that has been up-resed and processed to the same pixel dimensions as the RAW.

its not at all bad - its just you are left with less PP latitude afterwards

Yes, the E-P5 resamples the center pixels 4:1 and projects them back onto 4608 x 3564. I just did a keyboard test in pretty dim lighting (1/6 sec, f/5.6, ISO 1600), and the results are pretty much identical to scaling 200% in PhotoShop right down to the ISO noise. With no apparent loss of IQ using the digital Teleconverter, it seems to be a reasonable way to compose your enlargements live versus cropping in post process.

I always use spot metering so for me there was no difference in the exposure between the two methods.

Is there a difference in metering? Does it meter on the cropped image or the full image?
