Okay I got my Mini today and as posted earlier it is all set up thanks to all the posts here on the forum.
    I have one question tho.
When I turn on the camera it makes a clunking noise.
Have tried with various lenses and same result.
Camera works fine, but is the noise at start up normal?
    Thanks
    Dave

i think its the sound of the sensor getting cleaned.

No idea why, but its the shutter firing. Keep the lens off when you turn on the camera, and you'll see the shutter. Again, no idea why.

I read at dpreview that it's the stabilisation motor starting up and is pretty common.
    I guess I won't worry about it.
    Otherwise, camera works great.

It's the shutter-cocking mechanism. An artifact of the original shutter design which was taken from the E-620 DSLR.

It's perfectly normal, so no need to worry!

The EPL3 does the same thing. The EP3 does not. Something to do with the newer shutter they're using in the EPL3 and EPM1. Seems to be a shutter click (or clunk) because it sounds just like a shutter release. Which again, is a different sounding shutter release on the EPM1 and EPL3 than on the EP3.

Any chance you could make a video and upload it so I can hear the noise? My EPM1 is silent when I start it up.

    Hi Ray
After further research I also read the same thing that you said.
A little annoying but I'm not going to sweat it.
    Thanks for your input.
The camera works great and is a lot of fun.

Hows the Voigtländer on the EPM1? I'd love to see a pic. Also how is the manual focusing on the Pens? I only have the kit lens and soon as the post comes the 17mm 2.8

    I haven't tried it yet...busy week.
I will report back because I'm anxious to find out myself.
It does work great on my other Pens and I have posted a few of those pics here in the past.

  15. Same experience here

    FWIW

My recently purchased E-PM1 makes the same shutter sound upon startup.
