I'll contact Oly in the morning...but has anyone had this happen or hear of it and what did you do?

BTW it still works, half pressed for focus and fully pressed for shutter actuation.

Dang. Let us know what Oly says. I wonder if that little wire was a pressure spring that held the button on in conjunction with a lower lip on the button itself. If it wasn't actually glued, you might be able to buy a part.

Happened to me too so I have plenty of sympathy. It inspired me to get an E-P5 as I noticed that and other models post E-PL5 didn't have the same shutter button design. I thought it would only happen again eventually. IMHO, it's a design fault on Olympus' part.

Yup, had exactly the same thing happen while booze-cruising in Brittany. The button just sprang out of the top plate and into a hedge. Needless to same I couldn't find it. Repaired under warranty, in Olympus' "couldn't give a *!!? k" sort of way, it's been fine ever since but somehow I just can't trust it.

Not seen that before, and you have my sympathy.

Surely this is an ideal excuse for a trendy mod of some form. Some taxidermy on a ladybird (with a good thick varnish for strength) or something equally horrific to make your camera stand out?

Did you mean ladybug? Birds have crappy ergonomics.

That truly sucks. I hope Oly service is good and prompt where you are.

If Olympus doesn't come through, just use Sugru.

It happened to me, fixed by Olympus under warranty, they actually replace the top plate rather than fix the shutter button. If your camera is not too long out of warranty, still ask them to repair it as it is a well known design weakness.
