E-P2 AF speed test at Focus Numérique

Focus Numérique did an interesting AF comparison of the E-P2 and GF1 using the Pana 20 and Oly 17 on both cameras. It is nicely presented, graphically, to demonstrate the differences in AF timings.

My interpretation of the Google translation is the following:

  • All combinations (GF1 Pana 20, GF1 Oly 17, E-P2 Pana 20, E-P2 Oly 17) took about 0.5s to achieve focus on a target (? 80 cm distance) the first time after powering on the camera.
  • 3 of the combinations - GF1 Oly 17, E-P2 Pana 20, E-P2 Oly 17 - continued to take ~0.5s to lock focus on subsequent repeat photos of the target
  • The GF1 Pana 20 combo was about 20% faster (~0.4s vs ~0.5s) than the rest when a subsequent photo was taken without first powering off the camera (which sets the focus back to infinity)
If anyone speaks French, please let me know if I understood correctly.
