Hello everyone,

great news for all E-P1 owners... Olympus have released Firmware 1.2 for the E-P1.

I've just updated my E-P1 and also noticed that version 1.1 firmware for the Lumix 20mm f1.7 is available - so updated that too.

The good news - it's significantly improved the responsiveness and focusing speed with 17mm f2.8, 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 and 20mm f1.7 - all just exercised.

My gut feeling is that Olympus have halved the gap in focusing speed, between their last firmware revision and Panasonic's G1/GH1/GF1 focusing speed.

Update your E-P1 now - you do this by plugging into your machine running Olympus Master/Studio while connected to the internet.

Make sure you have a fully charged battery installed first, and follow the instructions on screen.

Kind Regards

Brian

This is the best news I ever could have hoped for. Looks like tomorrow I'll be shopping around for an EP1 body and 20/1.7 lens :)

Brian,
Isn't the firmware for the 20 the one that was released a little while ago or is it a new one?
Thanks in advance.....Don

It means I checked each of them on the updated E-P1, and all are improved.

I have just 2 questions left:

1) Do portrait photos come out portrait on the computer? With the GF1 + 20/1.7, you had to rotate your portrait shots manually.

2) White or silver??

Dear Brian,

When u said there was also firware update v.1.1 for the 20mm f1.7
Is it for the Lumix-G Cameras?

Or, still only for the EPs...
Thanx.

There were separate v1.1 firmware updates for both the GF1 and the 20/1.7.

About the Panny 20mm......
I updated the 1.2 firmware. On the cam it reads body 1.2; lens 1.1 when the 14-42 is mounted. When the 20mm is mounted, ir reads lens 1.0.
Will I need to mount the 20mm onto the camera and install with the same precedure through Master Studio 2 again to upgrade the 20mm too? :dash2:

Thanks in advance,
Bikenut

Yes, you need to update each device (body, lens) individually... if you connect the camera with 20mm f1.7 mounted, Olympus Studio will recognise the lens if it needs updating.

Thanks Brian. I only got around to registering here today so you beat me to my own figures!!!

I think I will take my camera to work with me tomorrow and do a wander around town to find out what it is like with a bit of sunlight. It was miserable and raining today (but we really needed the rain).

Cheers
