I ordered my E-M5 March 18, 2013 and just started noticing the dreaded Sticky Shutter problem.

What are my options for repair?

    thanks

Don't you have a one year warranty?

That's what i was curious about, it's been less than a year and would it cover it? I don't have any of my paperwork with me...

I fixed mine a couple of months ago for $178. Mine was out of warranty so...
Second time I've had to send it in for this problem. Wonder if it happens on all E-M5s eventually.

I don't know if that is a defect covered by warranty or just a wear thing that can happen at anytime, but I'd call Olympus. Your getting too close to your one year date to fool around with it.

The only paperwork you need is proof-of-purchase (i.e. receipt, preferably with your name or mailing address on it). It doesn't have to be the original piece of paper - if you ordered online you can likely reprint it.

It's covered by warranty. I had it on e-pm1. They usually flat out replace the shutter. But make sure you properly explain the problem to the person receiving the camera.

Thanks, i called and they were aware of some of the E-M5's having the problem. I followed their instructions, filled out the "web order" from Olympus America, and am shipping the camera in this afternoon, covered by warranty. I made sure I was pretty detailed about the problem. Now I'll dig out my E-510 to carry around to pass the time.

That's good to hear, if you don't mind me asking, how many shutter clicks on your camera?

Damn its not all that inspiring to hear that shutters are sticking at only under 5k. What are these shutters rated for anyway? 100k I assume or thereabouts?

I believe that's what I read, 100k. It sounds like it's more of a production problem, hopefully the new shutter will be better. I'd really be interested in knowing exactly what is causing the problems.

And I'd also suggest to anyone with an E-M5 under warranty to go out and shoot some 1/4000 photos just to see if it's there. I never would have known if I hadn't been out the other day with my manual 200mm/f4 taking some brightly lit snow shots.

Off goes my E-M5.... now the question is how long it will be until I get it back. I've read some got theirs back in 10 days.

I got mine back after the bezel repair and cleanup in less than 10 days.
Good luck with your turn around. I gotta shoot some 1/4000 shots soon to see if I have the same issue

I also had a sticky shutter on an EPM1 after about 4000 clicks. It was out of warranty, but I chose to pay the $98 to get it fixed. It was about 12 days turn-around. They replaced the shutter.

What's the warranty after the repair?

I didn't save my paperwork, but recall the warranty only applies to the sub-assembly that was fixed and it was 90 days.
