Curious if anyone can comment on the effectiveness of the E-M5's IS when the "half way release with IS" function is enabled vs. disabled.

Since the last firmware update, the concept of the noise only being present when the shutter is depressed has somewhat annoyed me. I know, you can't please everyone...I'm in the camp where I noticed it less when it was on full-time.

So my workaround thus far has been to deactivate the "half way release with IS" function...but I'm wondering if someone could explain the function fully to me. I'm assuming the IS is only activated when the shutter is fully depressed? And does this ultimately effect the outcome/IS performance?

The only thing impacted is that your liveview is not stabilized when composing. IS performance remains the same whether this feature is enabled or disabled.

Personally I have it off to save power, and only turn it on when using extreme telephoto, i.e. my 400mm or 500mm lenses.
