So, what's this new software that DxO Labs are hyping us all up about? link

    Well, I assume it's software.

I stand corrected! It's an ugly beast, though.

Looks perfect to.. break that micro-USB port.
Olympus Air was more appealing, but I guess they've axed it.

I agree that the OlyAir seems like a much better solution. I guess I don't really see the value of something like this over the (quite competent) built-in iPhone camera if it doesn't at least add a zoom.

By the way, it's a Lightning port that this thing seems designed to break. The micro USB standard is far too plebian for Apple.

I think this is a better solution for the average person, and maybe even for most enthusiasts. The problem with the other solutions already on the market is that you have to sync them up with wi-fi, which may take 30 seconds or more. So what if you happen upon a photo opportunity, are you going to find it worth the effort to pair your camera and phone each time? With this you just plug it in and go. Plus since it has the lighting connector, performance will be faster and allow for things like "super RAW".

Also, this looks much more compact and portable design.

20mp 1" sensor with a f1.8 prime is actually going to be an extremely capable camera.

No worries there as it only supports Apple Lightning ports!

I expect a death rattle just rippled through P&S OEM executives.
This may not be the one, but the idea of a hard interface with a smartphone isn't a bad idea. What if a future gen DSLR had a slot to drop an iPhone into...
I could see derivatives of this idea, a small, capable, pocketable camera making P&S cameras completely obsolete.

I liked the Air better though.

The Air's ability to use existing m43 lenses was promising. Is it really scrapped?

Where did you hear that? While the Air is currently limited to Japan, I haven't heard anything about Olympus discontinuing it. I see the Japan-only approach as basically a huge public beta before they make a decision on expanding the availability.

I didn't, just sharing budeny's sentiment. Hopefully we're both way off!

Can't work out which was the most bonkers product launch of this week.. Donald Trump for President or the DXO camera...both are equally deranged and have as much chance of success.

Sadly I think Donald might just have more chance of success!!

I actually think it is very cool. I'd buy it for my wife if it were closer to $350. $600 is a bit expensive. I could get a full 1" camera with more features like the canon g7x for that money.
