I recently noticed my GH2 makes a sound similar to the whir of a small fan or disk drive. This occurs when it's been sitting for short time between shots. If I slightly pres the shutter button it stops.

My assumption is there are no moving parts, such as a cooling fan, in a digital camera.

    Any ideas?

Pressing the shutter button activates auto focus in the lens. So which lens were you using and does it do on just that one, or on others as well ???

YEs, I guess there are tiny motors in the lenses. I believe this occurs on both the 7-14 and 14-140.

Maybe it's on C-AF (left dial)? That way the lens is continuously focussing. The 7-14 doesn't have OIS so that can't be it.

Thanks it was on AFC. Maybe it was just with the 14-140.

A slight whirring noise is very common on the 14 - 140 although you normally have to put your ear right up to the lens to hear it
