    Hello friends!

I am just wondering if MEGA O.I.S. is working on video mode on my Pansonic Lumix DMC G3? It would be nice to have stabilized videos. I have the kit lens Lumix 14-42 that came with my G3.

Until now I have used only the Oly 45 1.8 on my G3 regarding photos and video recordings.

Would it be better to use the kit lens with MEGA O.I.S. when recording video with the G3 than the Oly 45?

Which is better Panny kit lens stabilzed or Oly 45 non stabilized on G3? For indoor video? Outdoor video? Low light? Sun?

In wich senario would it be better to use the Panny kit lens with the G3?

The Pany 14-45 OIS worked fine on my E-P2. Sorry, I don't have a Panny body to try it with for ya.

It depends on what your targets are, Olympus 45 1.8 is good for low light despite it doesn't feature ois. The ois lens I'm using is the Panasonic 14-45, and it supports video stablisation; however if you are looking for something similar but features ois, probably you should go for that leica 45 2.8.

My advice is don't buy the cheap Panasonic 14-42, the zoom ring isn't smooth enough for video purpose.

OIS work fine in video mode, I keep it enabled with my 100-300 even when tripod mounted to help smooth out wind induced vibrations.

A lens like the Oly 45/1.8 is great for isolating the subject, but you'll want to have some sort of support.

I just have the included kit lens, Panny 14-42, so that is the one I have to work with. And as I already have the Oly 45 from before the G3, I just can't buy yet another lens on the same focal length.

I primely shoot photos so the Oly 45 is ok for me mostly. But now I have a need to start working a little with video. And to keep costs down I want to use what I have, otherwise my wife will kill me...

But maybe Oly 45 in lowlight on tripod and the Panny 14-42 in daylight outside?

One thing that I'm still wondering.. Does MEGA O.I.S. work in AFC mode?

That is the whole point for me... I don´t want to use the Panny 14-42 for photos, just for video. Than I need continuos auto focus. Without that I rather use the 45mm (I am not after zoom capability but image stabilization when I am moving the camera when recording video).

Stabilization will be active with all video if it's turned on. You can just try it to confirm.

On the Panasonic bodies, video is either AFC or MF, regardless of which AF switch you have it on.

of course, the oly 45 1.8 will do for low light

just a quick thought, will using a "zoom lever" smoothen the 14-42 zoom enough for video?

There's even a stabilisation mode specifically for video if I recall. It stabilizes vertically but not horizontally so you get smooth panning. Check the manual. Might be mode 2, but I can't recall.

that should be it, but what does PowerOIS feature additionally if this is already in MegaOIS?
