I have a sony camera that has an EVF (superzoom, not dlsr). It's good quality, as I've compared it to the DSLR versions. But I find it difficult to see facial expressions and such when taking family portraits or my kids. I don't always know when their smiling or not.

Is there some real reason I need a EVF? Just glare on the lcd? I like taking pictures, but it doesn't help much if I can't see the people real well. I thought I could use the live view, but if I ever went pro  I thought that using live view was "against the rules." Certainly, you couldn't use it for anything fast moving ;)  I really have no idea.
