Or do I need to step up to G6 to get video exposure controls? Thank you .
The G5 doesn't offer control over aperture or ISO, but you are able to lock the shutter speed at certain settings to help get smooth video (which may be a slight step up from the GX1, but I'm not sure if the GX1 also offers that) and dial in exposure compensation prior to starting the recording. However, for full exposure control, yes you do need to step up to the G6.
Or to the GX7 or to any of the GH series
